When Ministry Gets Hard: Remember Where Your Worth Comes From

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” — Romans 12:6 (NIV)

As entrepreneurs, it can be easy to connect our worth to the response we receive from other people.

You launch the program and no one signs up. You promote the book and the sales are slower than you expected. You make the post and hardly anyone engages. You send the email, extend the invitation, or share something you truly believe God has equipped you to do, and people say no.

After enough of those moments, rejection can start to feel personal.

But someone saying no to what you offer is not the same as someone determining your worth.

Romans 12 reminds us that God has given each of us different gifts according to His grace. There are things He has developed in you through your experiences, your training, your knowledge, and even the difficult seasons you have lived through. Those things still have value when the response is not what you hoped for.

And even deeper than the value of what you offer is the truth of who you are in Christ. Your identity as a daughter of God does not increase when people applaud you, buy from you, book you, or say yes to you. It also does not decrease when they don't.

That is important to remember when you are building something.

There will be setbacks. There will be launches that do not go as planned. There will be ideas you have to change and moments when you realize you got something wrong. You can learn from those experiences without allowing them to define you.

Your business results can give you information. They can show you where you may need to grow, adjust, or try something different. But they cannot tell you what you are worth.

So when the answer is no, when the numbers are lower than you expected, or when something you worked hard on does not succeed, remind yourself of what has not changed: You still belong to God. You are still His daughter. The gifts He placed in you still matter. And your worth in Christ remains the same.

Prayer:
Father, help me remember that my worth is found in You, not in the response of other people. When I experience rejection, disappointment, or setbacks, keep me from allowing those moments to change how I see myself. Give me wisdom to learn, courage to make adjustments when needed, and confidence to continue using the gifts You have given me. Help me build from a place of knowing who I am in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
